How To Save Energy In The Office This Winter

Most Irish organisations are looking to reduce their energy costs and carbon emissions as we move into winter. Gannon has compiled a simple list of our top tips on how to make your office more energy efficient.

Keeping The Heat In

  • Keep windows and doors closed when the heating is on
  • Alert management to any defective windows or doors
  • Keep radiators and heaters uncovered and free to circulate heat
  • When possible wear an additional layer of clothes

Managing Air Conditioning

  • Keep windows and doors closed when the air conditioning is on
  • When possible switch off the air conditioning altogether
  • When the air conditioning is in use carefully manage the temperature

Lighting

  • The cheapest light is daylight, use as much of it as you can
  • Switch off lights when they’re not needed
  • Switch off lights at the end of the day

Water Heating

  • Only boil the water you need
  • Switch hot water boilers to eco mode
  • Fix dripping taps and make sure they turn off

Computers and IT

  • Unplug off all non essential equipment when not in use
  • Switch PC’s and monitors to energy saving mode
  • Shut down your PC when taking a break

Printing and Copying

  • Only print or photocopy when absolutely necessary
  • Only print in grey scale
  • Keep you equipment in economy mode and unplug everything at the end of the day
